Flax, also known as linseed, was cultivated in central Europe from the Neolithic onwards and is therefore one of the oldest agricultural crops. For a long time, it was the most important plant-based raw material for textile production.
The processing of flax stems was an essential part of the rural calendar. The “Brechlhütte” consists of the drying room with a large oven and an open, covered forecourt where the dried flax was broken over a flax break. The small building stood in Obereck on the grounds of the Haasecker farm and was in use for about one week a year. It was used communally by a total of ten properties.
