Detached, log-assembly haybarns can be found in the Alps and Scandinavia. The three Werdenfels haybarns on display at the museum once belonged to various properties in Partenkirchen, Mittenwald and Wamberg. The walls slant outwards at the top to protect against the driving rain. The round timber beams do not rest directly on top of one another, which allows for better ventilation of the haystack. The ridge strut resting on the gable wall is also typical: it provides the roof with the necessary longitudinal stability. There were originally no doors and the haybarn was only accessible via the open pediment. This opening was usually boarded up from the beginning of the 20th century.
