The southern Chiemgau region is a popular elite hunting destination to this day and the Wieselberg hut was built as prestigious lodging for wealthy hunting guests in 1897. When the annex for foresters and woodsmen was built in 1954, a new social group moved into the mountain hut. Both functions, workers’ accommodation and hunting lodge, are clearly separated.
Mountain hut and hunting lodge accommodation was usually used to shelter from the weather, as food supply stations and for night lodging. Quality furnishings and a comfortable and snug atmosphere were considered very important at the turn of the century. The walls in the hunting lodge area of the Wieselberg hut are therefore decorated with elaborately worked and colour-glazed wood panelling.
