This log cabin was originally built as a granary and belonged to the Sengfischer farm in Kochel. The inhabitants farmed and fished for generations. It was moved to the banks of Kochelsee around 1900 when it was no longer required for grain storage, to be used as a fishing hut thenceforth.

Did you know?

Regulated fishing: Fishing on Kochelsee was long marked by disputes, as the Benediktbeuern and Schlehdorf abbeys as well as the Bishopric of Freising fought for the right to fish the lake. The first detailed fishing ordinance for Kochelsee was issued as early as 1529. Protection against overfishing and a kind of conservation during spawning season were the most important aims, which is why there was a minimum size limit for fish and net mesh. The individual fishing ordinances were superseded in 1884 by the “General State Fisheries Ordinance” and then in 1909 by the “Bavarian Fisheries Act”.
