The two structures, a workshop with a tuff saw and a storage shed, highlight the ways in which calcareous tuff was extracted and processed in southern Upper Bavaria. The area to the south-west of Ammersee and Starnberger See in particular boasts a number of deposits of varying volume of this building material, which is typical for the region.

The most economically significant outcrops of this stone are near Polling and Huglfing, where calcareous tuff was quarried by specialised family businesses or farmers as a sideline. The quarried blocks were sawn up and sold on to building companies. The calcareous tuff typical to the region was used as a building material and as a raw material for stonemasonry.
