German Improved Fawn

This breed is said to come about through the crossing of the Chamois Coloured Mountain Goat from Switzerland and the indigenous landrace goat. Its characteristics include a medium to dark brown, short and smooth coat with a black eel back, lower abdomen and legs.

These goats can be hornless or horned. The German Improved Fawn produces an annual quantity of milk which corresponds to twenty times its body weight, which is why it is also known as the “common man’s cow”. Its milk is valued highly by people who suffer from cow milk allergies.

The animals’ preference for sinking their teeth into wood is useful for landscape maintenance. Goats can be used to keep shrubland areas free.
