Children exploring the museum – no chance to get bored
Well-founded knowledge about rural life in Upper Bavaria in the past is presented at the Glentleiten in a lively way. There are around 60 historic houses, workshops, mills and alpine farms to be discovered. The open ground of the museum is also home to goats, sheep, geese, horses, pigs and cattle.
Especially for families the Glentleiten Open Air Museum has developed various offers for visitors of all ages: for instance, the "House of Discovery", the historic bowling alley or daily changing demonstrations of handicraft techniques.
Program to join in at the "Mirznhäusl"
How did people dwell and live at the early 20th century? How did they heat their houses? How did they cook and where did they get water from?
During this program, the participants can try different activities around living and dwelling 100 years ago, meals will be cooked on a wood-burning stove and enjoyed together. Due to the limited space, the number of participants must be restricted to ten persons.

Animals in the museum
You will find lots of animals in the fields and meadows of the Open Air Museum in the summer months. They are mainly heritage livestock breeds once widespread in Upper Bavaria, some of which are endangered today. They are active in helping to maintain the museum’s historic cultural landscape.
The animals living at the museum during the season include mountain sheep breeds, such as the brown and black mountain sheep, as well as Bavarian geese, South German Coldblood horses, cattle of the Murnau-Werdenfels breed, and many more.

Forest Ball Track
The ball track runs along the path from the pig field, down to the mill valley (Mühlental) and to the hammer smithy. This track measuring approximately 60 metres in length is similar to the water channel in the mill valley and makes use of the slopes in the forest. The track includes various action points, so you can give the ball repeated momentum, hear it jangle over a set of xylophone notes or see it roll around a helter-skelter. The balls are available in return for one 50-cent coin each from a machine on site (please use the correct amount, as the machine does not give change).
Historic Bowling Alley

The bowling alley from Staudam, which is more than 100 years old, invites you to do open air bowling. It is an attraction for all who want to combine a visit to the museum with sports. As customary in former times, the bowling pins must be set up by a „bowling boy“. Please make a reservation at the cash desk.
