The district assembly of Upper Bavaria passed a resolution in 2012 to have a new entrance building constructed for its Glentleiten Open Air Museum. There was a Europe-wide competition one year later in which almost 300 architecture firms took part. The jury chose a design from the Florian Nagler Architekten office in Munich.

After subsequent detailed planning, construction began on 29 August 2016. The resulting building combines several functions under one roof: Reception and checkout, museum shop, special exhibition room, restaurant and show brewery, media lounge and event Location.

The ground-breaking ceremony took place on 7 October 2016, with the topping out ceremony on 21 June 2017. The building was officially opened on 19 March 2018. The entrance building has been nominated for numerous architectural prizes, such as the Chamber of Bavarian Architects’ “artouro” award, the DAM prize conferred by the German Architecture Museum as well as Switzerland and Liechtenstein’s “constructive alps” competition.
