The weighing hut comes from Acheleschwaig Estate, which was a former outpost of today’s Schwaiganger Principal and State Stud Farm. Wagons delivering hay and straw rolled through a large gate and stopped on the weighbridge to be weighed. In the structure’s extension, the weight was read and printed on a weighing card as a receipt. Wagons then left the building through a second gate on the opposite  side.

This unadorned, functional building has a remarkable roof design feature known as a king post. The way in which this structure transferred loads meant that no supports or struts were required, thereby obstructing the way through.

The scales' actual mechanism is barely visible. The hut’s extension only contains the weighing apparatus with sliding weight bar, which was used to calculate weight. The rest of the mechanism is hidden in a concreted pit.
